Born and raised in Michigan... we call it a shopping cart. I'm very interested to know what other people could possibly call it... a basket?!
I'm going to wait for a few more responses before I reveal the terms I've heard for it... and the one that I call it!
I'm from texas. We've called it a grocery basket and a shopping cart. But growing up we always called it basket.
shopping cart - i'm another midwesterner
growing up it was always a basket. now I interchange that with shopping cart. but I always refer to the little handled ones as hand baskets.
The ones with wheels are carts, the ones with handles, baskets... and I'm a Spaniard! ;)
I'm from the east coast and back home we call it a shopping carriage. When I came to the west coast everyone made fun of me because here it is called a shopping cart. Southerners that come to visit call it a Buggy, and the British folk who are here on holiday call it a Trolley.
It may be a bit late as I recently found your blog but we in Germany call it "Einkaufswagen". It's the same like shopping cart I think ;)
